Rheumatologist Joins the Region’s Most Comprehensive Physician Network
East Stroudsburg, PA (August 10, 2016) – Pocono Medical Center welcomes Arif Shahzad, M.D., to the Pocono Medical Center Physician Associates as its new Rheumatologist.
Board-eligible in rheumatology and ECFMG certified, Dr. Shahzad has a particular interest in treating early onset rheumatoid arthritis. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, arthritis affects 52.5 million US adults, which translates to more than 1 of 5 adults. “My long term goal is for patients to have good quality and function in life to enjoy doing the things they love,” said Dr. Shahzad, “And I look forward to achieving that at Pocono Medical Center with my patients.”
Pocono Medical Center continually assesses the needs of its community, and as a result recognized that there was a need in Monroe County for a rheumatologist to manage and treat those affected by arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and pain disorders affecting joints.
Before joining Pocono Medical Center, Dr. Shahzad earned his medical doctor degree from Saba University School of Medicine, Netherlands Antilles, followed by his position at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana, as Hospitalist and a rheumatology fellowship at Ochsner Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana.
