Tree Walk Planned for September 7 at Grey Towers

MILFORD, PA – A guided walk about the trees on the grounds of Grey Towers National Historic Site, 122 Old Owego Turnpike, Milford, Pa. is planned for 11:30 am on Sunday, September 7. A second walk will be offered at 1:30 pm if the earlier walk fills up. Space is limited and reservations are required.

US Forest Service staff will lead participants throughout the estate on a 90-minute walk to identify and provide some history about many of the native and unique trees planted at the estate in the early 1900s.

The Pinchot family planted more than 100 trees on the grounds after it was clear-cut around the turn of the century. Today the estate is a living example of conservation and resource management.

Participants will receive a free “Trees of Grey Towers” pamphlet and are encouraged to bring their electronic devices to read the QR codes that are on the new tree ID signs. QR, or ‘quick read’ codes, are linked to a web site that provides additional information about the trees on the walk.

Please dress for the weather for this rain-or-shine program and wear appropriate footwear for uneven terrain.

The walk is limited to 20 participants. Regular tour fees ($8 adults; $7 seniors; $5 youth; under 12 free) apply for this guided walk and participants have the option of touring the mansion for half-price before or after the walk. When registering please provide contact information and note which walk you are signing up for.

For information please call 570-296-9630 or send email to greytowers@fs.fed.us.
