9/6/12 – Pesticide Applicator Certification Examinations, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Penn State Extension office in Monroe County, 724 Phillips St, Suite 201, Stroudsburg. 9/6/12 – Penn State Extension in Pike County will hold the first of 5 weekly sessions of a FREE Quit Smoking Course, 6:00 – 7:00 PM; Belle Reve, 404 E. Harford St., Milford, PA 18337. The group will meet for 5 consecutive Thursdays (Sep. 6, 13, 20, 27, Oct. 4). Pre-registration is required. Nicotine patches available while supplies last. Individual counseling and group sessions available by appointment; call 570-296-3400 or 570-253-5970, ext 4110 or send an e-mail message to PikeExt@psu.edu. Tobacco Free Northeast PA at Burn Prevention Network is funded by a grant from the PA Department of Health Tobacco Prevention and Control Program.

9/6, 13, 20, 27/12 – ABC's of Raising Chickens, 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Penn State Extension office in Monroe County, 724 Phillips St, Suite 201, Stroudsburg. Cost: $35 for first person and $15 for additional persons from same family/farm. This 4 week (September 6, 13, 20, 27) course is for small scale meat and egg producers or those just starting out. You will get a general understanding of what it takes to have poultry. Registration, including payment, is required by August 30. 9/11/12 – Penn State Master Food Preservers will be hosting a FREE Canning Q & A session, 6:00 —8:00 PM, Tractor Supply store on Route 209 in Brodheadsville PA 18322. Bring your dial gauge pressure canner lid to be tested for accuracy and ask questions about freezing and canning safely. This gauge check should be done annually, and will be done while you wait at no charge. It is only necessary to bring the lid with dial. No pre-registration is required. 9/11/12 – 2-Hour Tune Up for Your Organization: How to Have a Great Meeting, 7:00 —9:00 PM, PPL Environmental Learning Center, 126 PPL Drive, Hawley, PA 18428. This program is the first in a series of 5 workshops (9/11, 9/25, 10/9, 10/23 and 11/6). Cost: $25/workshop or $100 for all 5 workshops. Some meetings seem to wander and no decisions ever get made. Put your meeting back on track. Topics include: prepare for the meeting; use an agenda effectively; and define roles and expectations for members and committees. 9/14/12 - 4-H Palette of Fun Art Club meeting, 5:00 – 6:30 PM, Wild Acres Club House, near 101 Clubhouse Drive, Dingmans Ferry PA 18328. Meetings will be cancelled and not rescheduled if inclement weather, school closings, or school concerts/plays are scheduled on same date. 4-H is open to youth ages 8 - 18.
