United Way Funds Support Pike County Developmental Center

Sue Robbins and John Gilpin, both of the United Way of Pike County were very pleased to present a check in the amount of $4,000.00 to Liz Torkildsen, director of the Pike County Developmental Center. These funds will be used for the continued support of adults with disabilities and will help the Center provide their clients an opportunity at achieving their life's purpose through education, vocational training, social interaction and life skills instruction.

"PCDC participants benefit every day from community support through the United Way. Our services are designed to provide clients with a foundation of confidence through the structure and guidance of our programs helping them to achieve personal goals as happy productive members of society.
Currently the 19 PCDC clients volunteer in community organization activities, work part time at vocational training centers and several have moved on to competitive community employment. United Way funds are critical to providing these services", said Liz Torkildsen, PCDC Director.

"Our United Way contributors and volunteers, realize the need to rise to the challenge and make a difference in life where it is needed most. This is what we mean by Living United and we thank our community champions for their support." said John Gilpin, UWPC Board Member and Pike County Treasurer.
"We would also like to thank Liz Torkildsen for welcoming us in to the Center to meet all of the clients it truly was an honor. Thank you everything you do Liz!" said Sue Robbins UWPC Board Member.

"Giving to United Way is the best way to change lives and help shape our community. Because of your donation to the United Way of Pike County, organizations like PCDC will continue to provide neighborhood services helping individuals and families to thrive. We are deeply grateful to our community partners and heroes who generously donated their time and money towards making this year's United Way campaign a success." stated Catherine Capasso UWPC Executive Director.
