Shot completely on an iPhone 5, the gritty immediacy and high-octane vitality of its inventive cinematography, Tangerine is indie-comedy at its best. This modern-day buddy movie follows Sin dee (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) and her best friend (Mya Taylor) on a madcap romp through sketchy stretches of downtown Los Angeles

The Film Salon @ Black Bear Film Festival is pleased to announce the screening of two LGBT-themed short films and other events of interest to the LGBT community during the festival weekend on October 16-18 in Milford, PA. Films screen at the Pike County Public Library Community Room, 119 East Harford Street in Milford. Admission to the Film Salon is free, and tickets may be obtained 30 minutes prior to each screening.

Alone with People is a delightful story about Andie, a high school kid growing up gay in Georgia. Too afraid to confide in anyone close to her, Andie seeks the help of a therapist to come out to her family and friends in this hilarious and touching coming-of-age tale. Directed by Drew van Steenbergen, who will be on hand to answer questions from the audience, this film has been honored with five awards and has been featured in film festivals including New York, Los Angeles, Sydney, Mumbai, Tokyo, and Toronto. The film screen Saturday October 17 at 5:15 p.m.

New York filmmaker Shira Levin returns to the BBFF Salon on Sunday, October 18 at 12:15 p.m. with her latest film, Upside Down, in which a 10-year-old tenant whose parents recently divorced befriends a transgender woman in her building, despite her mother’s wishes.

Other Film Salon attractions include a Hollywood movie classics retrospective with local author and film historian John DiLeo, New York fashion designer and Professor of Fashion at Berkley College Diane Maglio with an interactive presentation on Italian Menswear in 1980s films (think Gere!), a campy “Cheezy Chiller Classics” feature on Saturday evening, and a film tribute to local artists. Check out for information on the Salon, the main stage films, and the opening night film and gala dinner.

As the Director of the Film Salon, our very own Will Voelkel programs the Salon’s films, events and guest speakers (32 this year.)
