Puttin’ on the Pink October 10th!
Fundraiser for Mobile Mammography at Wayne Memorial
The public is being encouraged to wear anything pink on Friday, October 10th to support the fight against breast cancer and to buy a $5 pink ribbon pin. Monies raised from the pin purchases will go towards a new mobile mammography program at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
“Puttin’ on the Pink” is a team initiative organized by staff at the hospital, Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC) and the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary to benefit the Auxiliary’s Pink Tie fund for mobile mammography.
Breast cancer survivor Melissa Rickard, CRNP/WMCHC is among those leading the campaign. “Early detection is really important,” says Rickard, adding, “Wayne Memorial has already received a grant to launch mobile mammography services, but more funding is needed to realize the dream. That’s where the Pink Tie fund and ‘Puttin’ on the Pink’ comes in. We’re so close to being able to offer mobile screening services, it’s really exciting.”
The public can pick up a pink ribbon pin at the Auxiliary’s gift shop in the hospital lobby, the Other Shops in Honesdale and Hawley, or the Pike County Medical Center in Lords Valley… or order a pin by calling Lisa Champeau at 570.253.8631.
Proceeds from the Auxiliary’s signature event, the Mistletoe Ball, this coming January, will also be dedicated to the Pink Tie fund.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
