Safe Haven of Pike County, Inc. Paints Pike Purple!
Safe Haven of Pike County, Inc. is pleased to announce that once again, it will raise awareness about domestic violence and Paint Pike Purple! Our month-long campaign throughout Pike County has enabled all of our residents to become more mindful of domestic violence in our community, and how they can become a part of the solution to eradicate this widespread issue.
Safe Haven hopes that you will participate in the many events and activities that allow us to combine fund raising with awareness this month. Our primary goal is to honor the victims of domestic violence, while we support the survivors in their journeys to end the abuse, giving both victims and survivors a voice in our community. Safe Haven of Pike County, Inc. served over 300 victims of domestic violence from 2011 to 2012, including providing safe shelter to 45 women and their children within our community.
October’s events begin with the Commissioner’s Proclamation on October 3rd signifying that we, as a community, are united in our efforts to end the violence. Immediately following the proclamation, Safe Haven will be holding a Press Conference to discuss the timely issue of domestic violence. If you enjoy the outdoors, Safe Haven will be holding the Tour de Pike County Bicycle Event at Milford Beach and The First Annual Charity Vehicle and Car Show in Dingmans Ferry, both on Sunday, October 14th, as well as The 9th Annual Golf Tournament on October 15th. On October 23rd, we will be sponsoring a Town Hall Meeting on Teen Dating Violence at Delaware Valley High School. This community event will be an outreach to all, but especially to our young people and their parents, to become more aware and alert to the violence our teens may face in relationships. On October 24th, we will hold our Candlelight Vigil beginning at the Pike County Library in Milford at 6:00pm, and ending at the Pike County Courthouse where we will have speakers and remembrances from people within our community. On October 31st, Halloween, Safe Haven will be holding its Community Open House from 1:00-4:00, and will also be welcoming the “Trick-or-Treaters” in town for some safe Halloween goodies. In your travels, you may see our various displays throughout the county this month, please stop by and say “hello,” we will be happy to provide you with important information about Safe Haven and domestic violence.
