Pocono Medical Center

Pocono Medical Center is Recognized as a Center of Excellence in
Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG)

Pocono Medical Center (PMC) continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving the safety and quality of patient care while also lowering the costs associated with treatment. PMC and its team of providers including Dr. Cheryl Hamilton, Dr. Radhika Ailawadi, Dr. Shadi Kayed, Dr. Yardlie Toussaint-Foster, and Dr. Vladimir Nikiforouk were recently recognized by the Advancing Minimally Invasive Gynecology Worldwide (AAGL) and Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG). The COEMIG program is designed to expand patient awareness of and access to minimally invasive gynecologic procedures performed by surgeons and facilities that have demonstrated excellence in these advanced techniques.

“Our team of providers and staff has worked very hard to earn this important designation which ensures that we have the safest, highest-quality care for minimally invasive gynecologic surgery patients, said Kathleen E. Kuck, President and CEO of Pocono Health System/Pocono Medical Center. This program fosters quality improvement in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and our team is focused on exceeding all clinical benchmarks and guidelines as we strive to improve the health and well-being of our patients.”

The COEMIG program recognizes that the integrated efforts and resources of both the surgeon and hospital are what provide lasting health benefits for minimally invasive gynecologic surgery patients. PMC became only the seventh hospital in the entire Commonwealth to be recognized as a Center of Excellence. COEMIG’s program objective requirements and evaluation processes were developed in conjunction with leading minimally invasive gynecology surgeons. A commitment to patient care and success clearly necessitates that the requirements be comprehensive, research-based, and verified through a rigorous site inspection.

AAGL’s vision is to serve women by advancing the safest and most efficacious diagnostic and therapeutic techniques that provide less invasive treatments for gynecologic conditions through integration of clinical practice, research, innovation, and dialogue. It was founded in 1971 and has educated the world’s finest surgeons while improving the lives of women everywhere. SRC is an independent, nonprofit organization governed by industry stakeholders and dedicated to advancing the safety, efficacy, and efficiency of surgical care worldwide. They were initially focused on bariatric and metabolic surgery and have now emerged as a leading administrator of center of excellence programs for surgical specialties.
