Program Topic: Pesticides: Safe Use and Alternatives. Controlling pests in and around the home and garden is seemingly a never-ending problem. Insects invade homes, contaminate stored food products, carry certain organisms that cause serious human and animal diseases, infest pets, and threaten fruit trees, ornamental plants, and vegetables.
Kerry Richards, member of Penn State’s Department of Agricultural and Extension Education - Pesticide Education Program, will discuss and demonstrate alternative ways to manage pests, including pesticides when necessary. Illustrations and hands-on demonstrations of non-chemical alternatives and selection of the least toxic methods of chemical control will be their primary focus.
