12/1/15 – 5/8/16 – Beekeeping 101 Online course. Whether you are an experienced beekeeper, a new beekeeper, or thinking about starting a backyard beehive, Penn State Beekeeping 101 is a one-of-a-kind completely online learning experience. Expert instructors will walk you through all of the basic knowledge to start hives in your backyard. Beekeeping 101 is suitable for both beginners and those with some beekeeping experience. 3/8/16 – Technology Tuesdays: Heat Stress Abatement for Transition Cows & Heifers free online workshop, 8:30 -10:00 AM (EDT/EST). This is part of a series that includes presentations on dairy farm facilities design, dairy cattle behavior, nutrition, financing and labor. The impacts of heat stress on lactating cow milk production and other health factors is well known and many dairies today have implemented abatement measures for these animals. However the heat stress abatement needs of transition cows and heifers is often overlooked. This webinar will focus on the need for and methods to provide heat stress abatement to late gestation cows and heifers. The presenter is John Tyson, Penn State Extension Agricultural Engineer. 3/8/16 - PA Forest Stewardship webinar: Forest Farming – Goods from Your Woods, 12:00 -1:00 PM and 7:00 – 8:00 PM (EDT/EST). This webinar will provide an overview of how to incorporate forest farming with other forest stewardship goals. Whether planting medicinal herbs under a forest canopy or harvesting and utilizing invasive plants, non-timber forest products can help achieve a variety of forest improvement goals. The webinar will give an introduction to several non-timber forest products as well as discussing considerations for small-scale marketing.

The presenter is Leslie Horner, Forest Stewardship Program Associate, Center for Private Forests at Penn State. Approved for 1.0 Society of American Foresters CFE credit, Category 1-CF. 3/10/16 – Natural Gas webinar, 1:00 - 2:00 PM (EDT/EST). The topic is Renewed Competitiveness for U.S. Plastics from Shale Energy. Martha Gilchrist Moore, Senior Director, Policy Analysis & Economics, American Chemistry Council will discuss improved competiveness in petrochemicals and derivatives, current expansion in plastic products manufacturing, and expected expansion of U.S. plastics due to new announced investments in petrochemicals. 3/11/16 – March 11 is the registration deadline for the Hypertufa Container Workshop on March 23, 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Penn State Extension office. 648 Park Street Suite E, Honesdale, PA 18431. Cost: $5. Children under 18 are free. Hypertufa is a lightweight artificial stone. After a demonstration, participants will be able to make their own hypertufa container, which can be planted with a variety of plant choices. This is a hands-on event so don’t wear your best outfit. All materials will be provided. If you would like to purchase material for $3.00 to make another container at home, please order the kit when you register. 3/12/16 – Second in a series of three Tree Fruit 101 webinars will be held on March 12, 9:00 - 11:00 AM (EDT/EST). The topic is Insect Pest Management. The speaker is Dr. Greg Krawczyk. Greg is an Extension Entomologist specializing in tree fruit pests. Greg conducts research at the Fruit Research and Extension Center in Biglerville, Pennsylvania. The sessions are designed for the beginning tree fruit grower who plans to grow tree fruit for sale. Commercial Growers with limited experience will also find these trainings helpful. You will learn how to consistently grow quality fruit and avoid many of the problems that discourage new tree fruit growers.
