Ancien Régime Baroque Trio to Perform at Historic Landmarks
Children Admitted Free
The Ancien Régime Baroque Trio will appear at Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford, PA, on Saturday, June 13 at 5:30 pm, and at Hawley Silk Mill in Hawley, PA, on Sunday, June 14th at 3 pm. Tickets cost $20, and seating at both concerts is limited, so people who want to attend might want to buy tickets in advance. Children will be admitted free. See below for more information.
The program at both concerts will showcase Couperin, Marais, Lully and Hotteterre, all famous composers of the French cultural renaissance during the 17th- and 18th-century reign of the Sun King, Louis XIV. Contemporaries of Handel and Bach, they wrote grand, courtly music.
The trio includes Julliard Historical Performance graduates Arnie Tanimoto on viola da gamba, a predecessor of the cello, and David Ross on the transverse flute. Rounding out the trio is Julliard faculty member, Daniel Swenberg, on the lute.
Tanimoto is at home playing various members of the viola da gamba family, as well as both modern and baroque cello. He was the first-ever viola da gamba major at The Juilliard School. Described by The New York Times as a “fine instrumental soloist,” Arnie has performed with leading period ensembles such as the Boston Early Music Festival Ensemble and Trinity Baroque Orchestra.
Praised by The New York Times for the "limpid sweetness" of his Baroque flute playing, David Ross performs with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, the Early Music New York, Seraphic Fire, New Vintage Baroque, and the Minnesota Orchestra.
Daniel Swenberg specializes in historical plucked strings: Renaissance and Baroque lutes, theorbos, Baroque and 19th-century guitars, and the Baroque mandolin. He has performed with ARTEK, REBEL, the Metropolitan Opera, the Handel and Haydn Society, the Aspen Music Festival, Orchestra of St. Luke's, Renée Fleming and Kathleen Battle, and more.
The concerts will take place at the Great Room of Grey Towers N.H.S. in Milford, PA, at 5:30 pm on Sat., June 13, and in the Boiler Room of the Hawley Silk Mill in Hawley, PA, at 3 pm on Sun., June 14. Tickets cost $20 and can be bought in advance at www.kindredspiritsarts.org or in person at Books and Prints at Pear Alley (220 Broad Street in Milford, open Wed. through Sun. 11 am - 4 pm; 570-296 4777).
