7/1/16 - Registration deadline for the Summer Science - Fun with Agriculture Day Camps in 4 different locations on 4 different days, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Get ready for a day filled with science fun. Hands on activities include plant science, kitchen chemistry, water quality and more. Child must be age 8 to 13, as of January 1, 2016. Cost: $10 each, for current 4-H members; $15 each, for non-4-H members. Maximum of 30 registrants. Preregistration is required. 7/5/16– Final registration deadline for the StrongWomen/Growing Stronger program starting on July 12, 4:45 – 5:45 PM, Pike County Administration Building, 506 Broad St, Milford PA 18337. The classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 12 – September 29 and consist of a nutrition lesson and 8-12 strength training exercises that help improve strength, balance, and flexibility. Fee: $90. Pre-registration, including payment and completed paperwork, is required. 7/11/16 – Registration deadline for the Kids Cooking Camp, July 18 – 21, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM, St. Jacobi Church, 108 Glen Drive, Shohola PA. During Kids Cooking Camp children ages 8-13 will learn many skills that every good cook needs. The day camp will cover kitchen and food safety, basic food preparation and nutrition. Children who participate will have the opportunity to cook, try new foods and make friends. Cost: $25 for 4-H members; $35 for nonmembers. Pre-registration, including payment is required. 7/16/16 – Support our Native Plants and the Pollinator Garden workshops, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM, Western Pocono Community Library, 200 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville PA 18322. Cost: $5. Pre-registration is requested. Learn the importance of Native Plants and what they are. Find out why we should encourage and support Native Plants and how they require less water and care than non-natives. Also learn how they provide food and habitat for butterflies, birds, and beneficial insect populations. In this Pollinator session you will learn the secret of attracting birds, butterflies, and other wonderful wildlife to your garden, with an emphasis on natural pollinators. You will learn how to provide for the needs and conditions that enable them to survive and thrive. 7/16/16 – Composting Campers, 6:00 PM, Hickory Run State Park Outdoor Amphitheatre, 3613 State Route 534, White Haven, PA 18661. Free to the general public as well as campers; just bring a contribution to the compost pile we will build. Register at the program to win a free Compost Bin. In partnership with the Pennsylvania DCNR Hickory Run State Park Educational Outreach Program, Composting Campers is “fun with a purpose.” Upon registration campers receive an educational list of compostable items and collection bags for food scraps which they then bring to Saturday night campfire. At campfire folk musician Tom Storm entertains with historical ballads and the kids get excited as Roberta dressed as a giant microbe gears them up for building a compost pile. Kids and parents alike learn the microbe’s favorite foods, climate, and the value of compost as the collected goodies are added to the pile. Then it’s time for s'mores with more folk music.

7/21/16 – Registration deadline for the Cooking for Crowds: A Volunteer's Guide to Safe Food Handling on July 25, 6:00 – 9:00 PM, Penn State Extension. 648 Park Street Suite E, Honesdale, PA 18431. The program is geared to volunteers preparing food for events such as church fund raisers, fire company barbecues, booster club food sales and the many other types of events were food is served to the public.
