Free Outdoor Family Films at Grey Towers Popular animated films illustrate environmental challenges
MILFORD, PA – Families are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs for a free outdoor film on the lawn of Grey Towers National Historic Site, Milford, PA, at dusk. A related craft activity for kids will begin at 7 pm. In case of inclement weather, the films will be shown Sunday.
“Furry Vengeance” will be shown on the lawn on Saturday July 25 (rain date, Sunday July 26). This family film, set in the Oregon wilderness, shares the message of balancing habitat for wildlife and for people. It is co-sponsored by the Grey Towers Heritage Association and the Gifford Pinchot Audubon Society.
A program of the Grey Towers Heritage Association and the US Forest Service at Grey Towers, Screen on the Green is made possible by a generous grant from the National Environmental Educational Foundation (NEEF) and the Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. The GTHA selected films that carry an environmental message and are family-friendly, to provide fun and free programming with a conservation message for the community.
The films and craft activities will be held in the Grey Towers amphitheater. Families are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets and/or lawn chairs. Call 570-296-9625 after 3 pm if the weather is questionable. Please call ahead if bringing a group larger than 10 children so that we can have ample craft items. Parents may need to assist younger children.
A third film, a new documentary about Gifford Pinchot, is planned for Saturday, August 15.
Grey Towers, ancestral home of conservationist and former PA Governor Gifford Pinchot, today is managed by the US Forest Service and partners as a conservation education and leadership development center. Interpretive tours and programs tell the story of how Pinchot impacted natural resource management in the US. Regular tours of the Grey Towers mansion and grounds are offered every day from 11 am to 4 pm through the end of October.
