College Internship for Museum Studies Available at Grey Towers National Historic Site
MILFORD, PA – Applications currently are being accepted for a 10-week Museum Internship with the US Forest Service at Grey Towers National Historic Site, Milford, PA. The program is open to college students or recent college graduates. Deadline for applications is January 15, 2016.
In this unique program, the intern will have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with caring for museum collections including registration, cataloguing, conservation and archiving methods while working with the Grey Towers Museum Specialist in the historic mansion. The purpose of the internship is to expand upon classroom knowledge with experience such as inventorying, photographing, re-housing of historic photos and documents in archival materials, data entry and digitizing of collections information into Past Perfect Museum database. If time allows, the intern will also have an opportunity to do research and create exhibits for public viewing.
The successful candidate also will learn proper historic housekeeping technique in museum tour rooms and exhibit areas and minor conservation cleaning of artifacts such as documents, paintings, sculpture, books and furniture.
College students who are studying or have studied museum studies, art history, anthropology, archaeology, and history are encouraged to apply. Proposed dates of the internship are February 29 through May 6, 2016 but the start/end date could change to accommodate student schedules.
The Grey Towers Heritage Association can provide a $75 per week subsistence allowance. The US Forest Service provides housing on the historic estate and uniforms may be provided.
