12/4/12 – Tree Risk Assessment for Community Trees webinar, 12:00 – 1:00 PM ET. Participation in the web seminar does not require any special software. 12/4/12 - Penn State Extension will hold 2 informational, no obligation sessions at 514 Broad Street, Milford PA 18337 to receive required paperwork for the Growing Stronger Exercise Program (Strong Women/Strong Men) starting January 3, 2013 at the Pike County Administration Bldg., 506 Broad St, Milford PA 18337. Two fitness plans are offered: 6 weeks for $40 or 12 weeks for $80. Call Penn State Extension at 570-296-3400 and register for the afternoon information session at 2:00 – 2:30 PM or the evening session at 6:00 – 6:30 PM. Space is limited.

12/4/12 - Childcare provider training, 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Commissioners’ Meeting room of the Pike County Administration Bldg., 506 Broad St., Milford, PA 18337. Topic: Partnering with Parents: Working as a Team. Participants will define guidelines for building relationships with parents, and review some of the parenting styles seen by childcare providers. Participants will develop strategies for dealing with sensitive issues, working with language barriers or cultural differences. Cost: $5.00. Pre-registration is required by November 30 by going to http://www.pakeys.org/pages/login.aspx. Payment must be received in the Pike County Extension office, 514 Broad St., Milford PA 18337, PRIOR to the workshop date. There must be a minimum of 10 PAID registered participants by the course deadline in order to hold the workshop. For more information, call 570-296-3400.

12/5/12 – Penn State Extension in Pike County will hold the first of 3 weekly sessions of a FREE Quit Smoking Course, 3:00 – 4:00 PM; Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center, 2512 Route 6, Suite 2, Hawley, PA 18428. The group will meet for 3 consecutive Wednesdays. Pre-registration is required. Nicotine patches available while supplies last. Tobacco Free Northeast PA at Burn Prevention Network is funded by a grant from the pa Department of Health Tobacco Prevention and Control Program.

12/6/12 – Penn State Extension in Monroe County will hold their 96th Annual Meeting & Volunteer Recognition Banquet, 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Shawnee Inn, 1 River Rd, Shawnee on the Delaware, PA 18356. Ross the Mentalist will amaze and amuse the audience with his unusual ability to predict their actions, read their thoughts, and subliminally persuade his subjects to do as he wishes. The evening will include a brief business meeting and recognition of Extension Volunteers. Cost: $10 for registered volunteers or $20 for the public or any guests. 12/11/12 – “Technology Tuesday: Compost Bedded Pack Barns” free online workshop, designed for dairy producers, their employees and advisers, 8:30 -10:00 AM (EDT/EST). Learn what it takes to design and manage a successful compost bedded pack for milking cows. Topics will include area requirements, the need for aeration, and managing the composting process. Presented by Dr. Jeffrey Bewley and Dr. Joseph Taraba from the University of Kentucky. Registration is free, but is required no later than noon the day before the session that you wish to participate in. 12/15/12 - Childcare provider training, 8:30 – 10:30 AM, Lehighton Annex Building, 101 N. 3rd Street, Lehighton, PA 18235. Topic: Science for All Seasons. How can you get children excited about science throughout the year? This workshop provides ideas for incorporating science into daily activities and plans for all age groups. Participants will learn how to create outdoor learning environments to support science in every season. They will also engage in hands-on learning activities/experiments to support their understanding of science concepts and will understand how the activities meet the Early Learning Standards. This event is a hands-on, fun filled event that provides teachers with the resources they can immediately implement in their programs. Come prepared for learning, fun and prizes!
