Free Outdoor Classical Music Festival A first for Milford, PA
The first-ever outdoor Classical Music Celebration in the historic town of Milford, PA, takes place August 6th, starting at noon. Various musicians and ensembles will perform on sidewalks, in the park, in a landmarked church, and in the Milford Theatre -- all at no charge. What's more, the public will get to judge them in the Upper Delaware Valley's answer to "American Idol."
From Gen Y to Veteran Musicians
The musicians performing pieces by Bach, Mozart, and other immortals range from up-and-coming members of Gen Y -- e.g. New York City's Shanghai Strings -- to veteran ensembles such as Brass Quintessence and players from the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, now in its 22nd season. Indoors, the Tri-State Summer Chorale will perform at the Church of the Good Shepherd and Saint John the Evangelist, with accompaniment on the church's Schantz organ.
The public is invited to grade the performances, and the three top vote getters will appear in concert at 7:30 that evening in the Milford Theatre. Other musicians will then join them for a spontaneous semi-orchestral performance. Think Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame jam session, but with violins.
This inaugural Outdoor Classical Music Celebration is designed to showcase the beauty of Milford and its natural surroundings as well as the beauty of the music. It will also complement other activities in the area, including the Festival of Wood at Grey Towers National Historic Site.
