VetStock Revs Up For Area Veterans
The Fourth of July holiday proved to be a banner weekend for area veterans’organizations as VetStock teamed up with two of our area’s premier attractions – the Hamlin Speedway and the Malibu Dude Ranch to raise over $5,500.
Saturday night’s action at Denise and Randy Smith’s Speedway debuted the first running of what is to become an annual benefit race – The VetStock Firecracker 100. The exciting and grueling 100-lap race, sponsored by Hollywood Towing & Auto and presented by S & S Speedways-Indoor Go-Karts and SS Promotions, LLC, drew a huge crowd of family and devotees at what has been heralded by Dirt Track Digest as “one of the top entertainment values in the country today for small car division racing.” At the conclusion of the exciting, action-packed event, track Promotions Director Allesson Rode announced that the Speedway’s $4,447.50 donation to VetStock was made to help area veterans. “We at the Hamlin Speedway are committed to supporting VetStock in its effort to ensure that the funds it raises benefit our local men, women and families who served our Country,” she said.
Winner of VetStock’s 50/50 prize of $405.00 was local resident John Madsen, a Korean War Navy Vet. Volunteers from the Monroe County Honor Guard were present at the track to support VetStock and Ruth Hadley of Dingmans Ferry, Pike County sung the National Anthem.
VetStock was also on hand Saturday at the Malibu Dude Ranch in Milford where Veteran volunteers raised a total of $1,275 through its 50-50 efforts. In keeping with Malibu’s ongoing commitment to assist local Veterans, VetStock volunteers will also attend every event throughout the course of this rodeo season.
VetStock is synonymous with an unparalleled passion and tireless efforts to improve the lives of the area’s former and present Armed Services men, women and families. Founded in 2012 by Tom Ryan, Rich Diaz and Kelly Gaughan, its sole mission is to raise funds for those Veteran organizations who have not developed strong fundraising capabilities locally in both Pike and Monroe counties. None of the monies raised by VetStock is donated directly to individuals, but rather, is provided to non-profit veterans organizations who meet VetStock’s rigorous vetting process.
