New Medical Leadership for Wayne Memorial Hospital
Wayne Memorial Hospital welcomed new leadership for its medical staff this month: Denise Viola, DO steps up to the presidency and James Arscott, DO, is now the vice president. The two physicians will serve as liaisons between the Wayne Memorial Hospital administration and a medical staff of more than 200 physicians and mid-level providers (nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, physician assistants).
Dr. Viola, who is an obstetrician/gynecologist with Women’s Health, part of Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers, notes that the medical staff has grown significantly in the past several years and she looks forward to “helping my colleagues in the medical profession continue to work with the executives at Wayne Memorial Health System for the betterment of the patients, staff and community we serve.”
Dr. Viola earned her medical degree from the University Of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Maine and completed her residency at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut, which is affiliated with Yale University’s School of Medicine.
In her new role, Dr. Viola will also act on matters of mutual concern with Chief Executive Officer David Hoff and Medical Staff Chief William Dewar III, MD.
Dr. Viola replaces Scott Epstein, MD, and Dr. Arscott, a board-certified anesthesiologist, takes over for Timothy Farley, MD, who retired at the end of June.
“I am very interested in ‘community,’” said Dr. Arscott, “and facilitating good relations between the medical staff and the Administration. I look forward to working with everyone in the service of the entire community.”
Dr. Arscott received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and finished his residency nearby, at the Osteopathic Medical Center of Philadelphia. In addition, he completed a residency in the Scranton-Temple program in internal medicine. Dr. Arscott spent many years in the US Army National Guard and retired from the Army Reserves in 2007.
Both positions are for two years, after which Dr. Arscott will succeed Dr. Viola.
