514 Pounds of Food Collected !

The Grey Towers Heritage Association and the US Forest Service collected 514 pounds of non-perishable food (381 items) from visitors who attended the annual Ice Cream Social and free Open House at Grey Towers on July 4. The annual event is a re-creation of the ice cream socials hosted by PA Governor Gifford Pinchot when he lived at Grey Towers. The USFS and the GTHA sponsor this event and donate the food items to the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Milford, PA.

Harp Concert at Grey Towers

Kathryn Andrews and Kristi Shade, aka Duo Scorpio, will perform at Grey Towers National Historic Site at 5:30 p.m. on August 16th. This outdoor concert under a tent will feature music by Enrique Granados, Claude Debussy, and Maurice Ravel, and contemporary composers.

Praised for their "technical excellence and musical sensitivity" and for "taking the harp duo to the next level," Andrews and Shade are best known for their ground-breaking performances of modern pieces that they themselves have commissioned. Their goal with their commissions is to surprise people with the versatility and possibilities of the harp, and they did exactly that with Scorpio Tales, which was nominated for a Grammy. The Grey Towers concert will include both established classics by name-brand composers as well as contemporary music.

Andrews and Shade come from different part of the country, but they both ended up living in New York City, where they met each other and formed Duo Scorpio. In answer to the inevitable question, not only are they Scorpios, but they were born the same day: November 5, 1982.
