United Way Helps Habitat for Humanity Make a Dream Come True

The United Way of Pike County was very pleased to present Mike Donlon and Jim Lariviere of Habitat for Humanity with a check for $4,000.00. HFH is dedicated to building homes for families in need. Homes are built at cost and no interest loans are offered. Homeowners will have a mortgage with Habitat for the cost of materials and paid contractors. The new homeowner also puts sweat equity into their new home on the site at a minimum of 200 hours during the construction process. This is the 18th home that Habitat has built for families here in Pike County.

We made a visit to the construction site of the newest home in the Sunrise Lake Community in Milford. “Wow, to see all of the volunteers out here working on this home for a family in need is incredible. It has got to be 95 degrees today with absolutely no breeze. Habitat for Humanity and their volunteers have a level of commitment to the community that is absolutely AMAZING! Our United Way contributors and volunteers, realize the need to rise to the challenge and make a difference in life where it is needed most. This is what we mean by Living United and we thank our community champions and partners for their support. ” Said Catherine Capasso, UWPC Executive Director.

“HFH exists through the extraordinary efforts of its volunteers and generosity of those individuals and organizations who donate money and/or materials. “Nothing is as worthwhile as seeing a family take ownership of a home and begin a better life,” said Mike Donlon of Habitat for Humanity. He adds that “The monies from the United Way are invaluable from the start of the building process to the final moment when the family moves in to their new home. I would like to thank the United Way for their commitment to the community.” said Mike Donlon of Habitat for Humanity.
