Access Physical Therapy & Wellness employees select Michelle Becker as their ‘cultural champion
Michelle Becker, a physical therapist assistant in Access Physical Therapy & Wellness’ Port Jervis office and the Campbell Hall-based company’s physician and community liaison, was named the company’s “cultural champion” for 2015 at the company’s annual staff appreciation party Feb. 20 at Kuhl’s Highland House in Middletown.
A 10-year Access employee, Becker was nominated for the honor by numerous coworkers who said, in part: “Michelle has a great sense of humor, a generous nature, is giving and compassionate, and has an ability to laugh at herself in any situation. … Michelle’s compassion for her field of practice is larger than life. … Michelle is like an Access cheerleader, always raving about Access to the team, community and everyone she meets.”

Thirteen years later, Access remains a family- and 100 percent therapist-owned company, serving patients at 18 offices in two states; at Elant at Goshen Adult Home; and at in- and outpatient physical therapy centers at Bon Secours Charity Health System hospitals in Warwick, Port Jervis and Suffern.

Licensed in New York and Pennsylvania, Becker is a 2009 graduate of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at SUNY Orange. She has served many roles at Access since she became interested in physical therapy while a senior at Port Jervis High School and volunteered at the local Access office. She went on to work in the office as a physical therapy aide while studying at SUNY Orange. Becker has also served Access as a customer service specialist – and for a time helped out in the billing department. She represents the company at community events, and helps coordinate the company’s involvement in those events.
"I love the feeling of going to work every day, without feeling like it is a job,” she says, “and I like the feeling of leaving work every day with the satisfaction of helping someone else work towards their physical goals to get them back to where they belong."
Ashley Kurtz, Access’ director of operations and business development, said Becker is never too busy to roll up her sleeves and jump into any role she may be needed in. “Michelle is extremely flexible, going to any location needed on a moment’s notice,” Kurtz said. “She spreads the Access culture along the way.”
