WAYNE COUNTY TO HOST PA BREAST CANCER COALITION PHOTO EXHIBIT FEATURING FACES OF BREAST CANCER IN PENNSYLVANIA
Survivors to Share Stories at 67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania Kick-off Reception
The PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) is proud to partner with Wayne Memorial Hospital, Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Susan G. Komen® NEPA Affiliate this spring to bring its photo exhibit, 67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania to Honesdale from Thursday, April 9 to Sunday, April 19. A free kick-off reception will be held Thursday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the David Katz Conference Center.
This unique exhibit features women from each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, along with photos and quotes about how breast cancer has touched their lives. The survivors exemplify the diversity of Pennsylvania, and their messages reflect the impact breast cancer can have on families and communities across our state. The exhibit also encourages women to learn the importance of screenings and early detection.
PBCC President and Founder Pat Halpin-Murphy invites Wayne County residents to experience this empowering exhibit. "37 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Pennsylvania every day. The goal of 67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania is to educate women while giving a voice to breast cancer survivors," said Halpin-Murphy. "We are thrilled to bring that message to Wayne Memorial this April as we celebrate the life, courage, hope and dignity of women and families facing breast cancer in Pennsylvania."
An exhibit opening reception featuring Wayne County breast cancer survivors, health care professionals, and representatives from the PA Breast Cancer Coalition and Wayne Memorial Hospital will be held Thursday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the hospital’s David Katz Conference Center. Refreshments will be provided. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be on display through Sunday, April 19. To RSVP for the April 9 kick-off reception, please call 800-377-8828 x3050.
The PBCC works with Wayne Memorial Hospital, Susan G. Komen ® NEPA Affiliate and a committee of community partners to showcase this inspiring photo exhibit in Wayne County.
"We are very pleased to host this photo exhibit," said Wayne Memorial Hospital CEO David L. Hoff. "It is visible proof of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition’s commitment to find a cure, bringing real stories of real patients to every county in the Commonwealth and encouraging more women to be screened early. Here at Wayne Memorial, where we offer digital mammography in both Wayne and Pike counties and plan to offer mobile mammography in the near future, we, too, truly believe that early detection saves lives."
"Susan G. Komen® NEPA Affiliate is pleased to be a collaborating partner with the PBCC Photo Exhibit 67 Women, 67 Counties honoring all survivors and remembering those whose lives were lost from the disease. Both are reminders that progress has been made through research, education and improvements in early detection screenings, yet, there is still much work that needs to be done to advance the Komen mission and promise of a world without breast cancer" said Susan G. Komen® NEPA Affiliate Executive Director Dolly Woody.
