8K Run/Walk To Embrace Grey Towers’ History and trip to Gifford Pinchot's Birthplace
MILFORD, PA – An Earth Day 8K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 20, 2013, is not only good for physical fitness but also to educate the community about the conservation history in this region.
The inaugural race, organized by the Grey Towers Heritage Association and the US Forest Service at Grey Towers, will start and end at Grey Towers, ancestral home of Gifford Pinchot, founder and first chief of the US Forest Service and two-term Governor of Pennsylvania, and include parts of the Pinchot Greenway in the Borough of Milford and the Milford Beach in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
The race kicks off a year-long commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the dedication of Grey Towers as a national, public conservation center. President John F. Kennedy came to Milford in September 1963 to accept the gift of Grey Towers from the Pinchot family.
All proceeds will be used for public programs commemorating Grey Towers 50th Anniversary this year.
For more information or to register visit GreyTowers.org/race, call 570-296-9625 or email email@example.com.
Join us on a trip to Gifford Pinchot's Birthplace, Simsbury, CT. Learn how that town embraces the same family that also so strongly influenced Milford, PA. See where Pinchot was born, where his ancestors are buried, and how much the two towns have in common. During this celebratory year, we want to learn more about the family who donated Grey Towers to the public 50 years ago.
